Mediation is a process where both parties meet with a trained individual to attempt to resolve and settle differences instead of actively litigating those issues. In such cases, the mediator does not represent either party, but instead works with both parties to facilitate a settlement. Mediation can be much less expensive than a fully litigated divorce, and much less stressful.
Mediation is not for everybody. Often a party needs the benefit of a strong lawyer to help him or her achieve what is fair, and the Court system must be used for that purpose.
