If you are resident of Somerset County, New Jersey your divorce proceedings will be processed at the Somerset County Court in Somerville, New Jersey. Somerset County presently has three family law judges, however, these three judges are also required to spend portions of their time on Hunterdon County or even Warren County cases, as those counties are considered part of the same judicial vicinage. Somerset County has approximately 300,000 residents. Every year there are approximately 1200 new divorce cases filed in Somerset County, and approximately 800 old cases reopened for modification or other issues. In addition to divorce cases, the three family court judges in the County also have to share their time addressing juvenile matters, DYFS cases, Domestic Violence matters, and other matters. As a result, the Somerset County family court judges are often overwhelmed with various cases and other legal matters.
